President & Co-Founder, atVenu
After playing in bands and finishing college in Seattle, Ben moved to LA to work in music. He landed as an A&R guy/song plugger at BMG Music Publishing where the first song he pitched and placed received a Grammy award nomination. Ben started signing and developing artists to pub deals, one of which signed to RCA Records and asked him to manage them full time. He took the opportunity and for the next 8 years owned and operated an artist management company and indie record label overseeing the careers of 9 artists signed to both major and indie labels. Ben spent the first 4 years on the road tour managing and selling merch all over the world. After 12 years in the industry it was clear touring merch revenue was critical to an artist’s career, yet existing systems didn’t allow for better management of this business. Ben co-founded atVenu in 2012 to address this issue and now works with an incredible team building the industry’s only and best live event merch platform that to date has managed merchandise for over 2800 artists, 70,000 shows, and $250 million in sales.
Producer, engineer, and mixer Brian Virtue has been a highlight in the rock world since getting his start in the early 90s, and his since gone on to work on an eclectic set of projects. A Southern California native, he began working in studios soon after graduating high school, quickly building his reputation as an engineer. Virtue’s first break came when 30 Seconds to Mars tapped him to co-produce their self-titled album alongside legendary producer Bob Ezrin, whose schedule didn’t allow him to commit to the project full time. The pairing proved successful, and Virtue went on to produce, engineer, and mix for Jane’s Addiction’s 2003 album, Strays (Capitol), under the mentorship of Ezrin. Following his work with Jane’s Addiction, Rick Rubin called on Virtue to engineer Audioslave’s number one album Out of Exile (Interscope).
Since then Virtue has established a prolific career. He continued to work with 30 Seconds to Mars and received vocal production, engineering, and mixing credit on 2005’s A Beautiful Lie (Immortal), as well as engineering and mixing credit on 2009’s This Is War (Virgin Records). The success of Virtue’s work has led to an industrious and project-filled four years following on from 2009, with notable credits including Puddle of Mudd, Taylor Swift, Chevelle, Deftones, and All That Remains. Most recently, Virtue produced, engineered, and mixed Hawthorne Heights’ Zero (Red River Entertainment), and mixed and contributed additional production to The Weeks’ Dear Bo Jackson (Serpents and Snakes), both released in 2013. I have been a musician since the age of 3, playing drums, piano, banjo and writing arrangements as well as producing records. /growing up in a suburb of n/y, I worked in jazz clubs and recording studios starting in high school. Always plying, I pursued a degree in economics and worked at a banjo night club called You Fathers Mustache. With this band we played the Ed Sullivan Show, NY Giants, Mets and Yankees. Weekends were spent on the road from New Orleans to Miami and a lot of colleges. I then attended the Wharton School of Finance studying for an MBA. After a five year Wall Street affair, I decided to go into music as a business. My first love was jazz, so I started managing jazz musicians starting wth flugelhorn great Art Farmer, pianist Dick Hyman and worked for CTI Records. I produced my first recrd in 1976 at Carnegie Hall and life was great. In 1978, I joined a major management/business management firm and developed clients Dr. John, Commander Cody, The Manhattans, Tangerine Dream, composer Michael Kamen and many other acts. In 1984, I started managing a new act on an indie label, New Edition. Marketing the act and building them into a real group, we took them to MCA Records, where they enjoyed a mu;ti platinum career. Forming my own company with two partners, we managed Ready for the World, John Waite, Colonel Abrams, the System and a number of other acts, produces, composers and had offices in Londn, NY and LA. I then signed an amazing 12 year old singer named Shanice and took her to a worldwide number 1 record, I Love Your Smile. I then got involved with the Acid Jazz scene, managing The Brand New Heavies and representing UK label Acid Jazz Records
At this time, I formed my own label through Motown called Taj Records. I also managed a number of acts on Motown and other labels. I was engaged as a consultant with MCA, Motown and RCA as well as with a number of publishers. I moved full time to LA in 1997and have never stopped. After losing a leg to diabetes in 2001, I was out of business until I formed an indie label called Hyena Records with multgrammy award producer /Joel Dorn and Henry Marx. We quickly became a leading grammy award winning indie. I currently manage a developing rock band called Rascallion and an amazing yourg singer named Cheynne Elliott. She is the gradbaby of icon Dionne Warwick and cousin of Whitney. I will be 70 in August and intend to keep in the business that I love.

From there, he segued into feature films (including two with Spielberg himself!) and never looked back. Eventually, he began to seek work as a Personal Assistant. The career change proved a wise step and he soon found himself working for (and with) some of the industry’s most well- known and well-respected talent in front of and behind the camera, including Courteney Cox and David Arquette, Academy Award winner Christopher Walken, Jack Black, Ben Stiller and acclaimed directors Joe Wright, Judd Apatow and Academy Award Nominee Peter Hedges.
